ABOUT 'LEHREN'

Using your hands to make is arguably more important now than it ever has been.

Yes we probably do have enough bowls/plates and mugs to serve us in our everyday lives, but the act of making is something that feels innate. I see it even on the faces of those who have been brought along to the sessions. Making is fun.

Lehren (to teach) is the opportunity for me to pass on tools and methods I have acquired through 16 years of working with clay. Not only is teaching a way for me to show but it is also a way in which I learn. The endless approaches, questions and responses from students have informed and will continue to inform my own practice.

As a child I was encouraged to play and make. People seem move on from that as they get older, I cling on to the act of playing and experimenting as in benefits my life immensely.

I feel that the further we go into a digital age the more important this mindset and my role becomes.
